When is a Shopsmith Mark II not a Shopsmith Mark II?

As is so often the case I don't have time to write this now, but I did want to get this content off my PC and into your hands for your edification. So the question was, when is a Shopsmith Mark II not a Shopsmith Mark II? When it's modified with a variable speed pulley and sold by Montgomery Ward as Ward's Powr-Kraft "Dyno-Shop". The first pic is a headstock that I purchased from eBay and intend to add to a Mark II frame, but the other pics are from listings and articles from around 1964 when this was offered for sale. How many sold? I have no earthly idea, but if you own one, please type the serial number into the comment field below and tell us a little about how you came to own it.

    Good afternoon.

    Well I got a Mark 2 about two months ago. I was looking for a bandsaw for my shopsmith and found a mark 5 with a bandsaw. When I went over he also had a mark 2. I was able to get a shopsmith mark 5 a wards marc 2 and a shopsmith for less that a bandsaw by itself. The model number is TMG84 3225 and the serial number is 36X 0310. This unit has the variable speed setup. Let me know if you want any more information about this machine.

      Hi Gordon. I see one available locally. Do you know if the parts on this are completely interchangeable with the shopsmith? The price on the one locally is good, but I'm hesitant to get it if I can get anything to fit it. They are rarer than hen's teeth. Thanks.

    Are the parts interchangeable between the 2? I see a powr-kraft locally for a good price but don't want it if I can't do anything with it.

      Yes, all of the parts are interchangeable between the Powr-Kraft and the Mark 2. Scott

      Thanks. The mark 2 is so rare I'm still hesitant. I'd like the parts to fit either a 10 ER or a Mark 5, since those are so much more common. ShopSmith website says that the power craft ones were not built to the same standards as the shotsmith tools. I do like the variable speed setup on the Powr kraft

    I know your post to LJ is over a year old but I have a Bonnie Klein lathe practically unused I purchased from estate in OK. Also have the threaded lid attachment if interested wordsmith07@ @hotmail.com
